Barlow Church is now closed

Letter from the Rev Watson 2012

Dear Barlow residents.

After a process of consultation by the Diocese of York was held in relation to the closure of Barlow Chapel, I am writing to inform you that the chapel is now officially closed. Whilst there is, of course, a natural sadness associated with the ending of centuries of ministry at the chapel, as I said in a previous letter , this has been the right decision by the small congregation for whom the burden of the building was proving too great. We can thank God that there has been a ministry in Barlow through the chapel for all these years.

Although the chapel is now closed, there will still be a Christian presence in Barlow. I and others are regularly involved in the primary school, and along with our pastoral team, I am always available, as your vicar, pastorally. You are part of the parish of Brayton, so are always welcome at St Wilfrid's church, where we have a variety of services ranging from communion - with Junior Church and crèche, to monthly relaxed family services and Friday Fun Club for pre-schoolers and parents/carers. I also organise community events such as walks, barn dances, fish 'n chips and games events, which I normally advertise through the school. It would be lovely to see you at any of these services or events!

The village is in the ecclesiastical Parish of St Wilfrid, Brayton. Brayton Parochial Church Council is responsible for St Wilfrid's Church, Brayton, Thorpe Willougbhy Church, and Barlow Church.

Barlow Church was a historic Chapel of Ease attached to St Wifrid's built so that local residents did not have to travel to church in Brayton.
